Dana Schiefer: A Rewarding Career

Since joining the organization as a Chef in 1998, Dana Schiefer has grown and developed his career over the years. He currently oversees the culinary operations across all our locations as the Chief Culinary Officer. Schiefer has seen and experienced the impact working directly with those who bring life to our communities. “They are more than residents, they are like family and we have a special bond because we work in their home. They see us every day and have interesting lives and stories to share; getting to know them is an amazing part of the job,” says Schiefer.

Not only are the residents great to work with, but so is the work environment. Schiefer works directly with the culinary teams overseeing the culinary standards, developing menus, and doing day-to-day management and support. He has found what the teams value the most about their jobs is their work-life balance. They are off by 7:30 p.m. every evening and get every other weekend off unlike most typical restaurant settings.

“The best part of the job is that they are still able to create the delicious food they are passionate about, while having more time to spend with their loved ones,” says Schiefer (pictured left).

Our culinary team takes pride in what they do and make every meal a great experience. “Getting to see the resident’s reaction to their food and get their feedback is extremely rewarding,” remarks Schiefer.

We care about our residents satisfaction and we make sure to understand their preferences, including creating a variety of quality and nutritious meals using local ingredients whenever possible. “We create seasonally inspired, rotating menus to ensure there is something for everyone. Our menus include a selection of appetizers, main courses and desserts, and range from fine dining items to homestyle comfort food. Every dish is beautifully plated and freshly served,” says Schiefer.

The culinary team is made up of a talented group of people in numerous different roles from dishwashers, prep cooks, to servers, chefs and more. “One of the great things about starting a career at Shannex is the ability to do something you love while moving up along the way, just like myself and so many other,” says Schiefer.
