Making a Difference Through Community Support
At Parkland, giving back to the community is a core value, and recent initiatives exemplify this commitment. From raising funds for mental health to supporting local food banks and participating in charitable walks, the residents and team are actively making a positive impact.
Celebration of Wreaths
A standout event, led by resident Maureen Benyard and the dedicated team at Parkland at the Gardens, was the Celebration of Wreaths in December 2023. Last year was the second year for this event but Maureen has been an active supporter for the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia. Parkland and Shannex raised over $25,000 at the last event. The funds raised play a vital role in supporting mental health initiatives within the community. The success of this event demonstrates the power of community support in creating a world where mental health is prioritized and supported.
Santa’s Visit: Spreading Joy and Support
In December 2023, Parkland at the Lakes residents and team members enjoyed a memorable visit from Santa while contributing to a great cause. Together, they raised almost $200 and additional food donations for the Cole Harbour Community Fridge. This heartwarming event showcased the spirit of giving and the sense of community at Parkland at the Lakes.

The donation collected were shared with multiple charities in the Cape Breton communities, reflecting the residents’ desire to make a positive impact on those in need.
Fundraising Efforts
At Parkland in the Valley, residents and the team supported two fundraising efforts: Heart and Stroke and Bobby’s Hospice. Through events like the KV Music Fest in the summer and initiatives led by team member, Carol McQueen, significant funds were raised to support these important causes. These efforts exemplify the community’s dedication to supporting health-related charities.
Banana Split Fundraiser
At Parkland on the River, team members Carol and Tanya organized a delightful banana split fundraising event in July 2023. This fun event not only brought joy to residents and team members but also raised $450 along with non-perishable food items for the Miramichi Community Food Bank. This initiative highlights the commitment to support local causes and strengthen community connections.
Participation in the IG Walk for Alzheimer’s
Parkland on Eglinton West geared up to partipate in the IG Walk for Alzheimer’s in May of 2023. This event provided an opportunity for friends and families to join the team or sponsor their walk to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society of Toronto. By participating in this walk, Parkland continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting causes that are meaningful.
