Bringing Joy, One Note at a Time: Meet Ethan Zhang
With a deep love for music and a generous spirit, Ethan Zhang is using his talents to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. As one of the incredible volunteers at Parkland on the Glen, Ethan brings more than just beautiful melodies—he brings joy, warmth, and connection.
A gifted young musician from Oakville, Ontario, Ethan sings in a community choir, performs at local concerts, and has even taken part in several music residencies. It was his piano teacher who first encouraged him to consider sharing his gift through volunteer work, and that suggestion led him to Parkland, where he quickly became a resident favourite.
For Ethan, the most rewarding part of volunteering is the warm smiles and enthusiastic greetings from residents each week. “It’s very rewarding, knowing that I’m making people happy every week,” he says with a smile. What started as a way to grow his confidence has turned into something much bigger—something deeply fulfilling.
Through his time at Parkland, Ethan has overcome stage fright, grown more confident, and learned the importance of clear communication and punctuality. “Volunteering has made me a happier person,” he shares. Each performance helps him grow not just as a musician, but as a young adult finding his way in the world.
Volunteering, Ethan says, has taught him more than he ever expected. It’s helped him develop important life skills and, more importantly, given him the chance to give back in a meaningful way. “It’s very satisfying and gives a great sense of accomplishment.”
To Ethan, thank you. Your time, your music, and your kindness have touched many hearts. In every song you share, you remind us of the incredible impact one person can have. You don’t just play music—you create moments of joy and healing. And that, truly, is the magic of volunteering.
