Parkland at the Lakes Team Member Spotlight: Colleen Curtis

June 25, 2025 Great People

As Parkland at the Lakes celebrates its 10-year anniversary this fall, we’re shining a light on the exceptional team members who’ve been part of their story since day one. Today, we’re featuring Colleen Curtis, Activity Lead at Parkland at the Lakes.

Originally from Newfoundland, Colleen found her way to Nova Scotia to be closer to her mother in Dartmouth. With a passion for fitness and wellness, she began teaching morning classes for women at Halifax Recreation. The part-time role gave her flexibility, a balance she valued and maintained when she joined Parkland at the Lakes.

Colleen was the very first team member hired in the Harris Hall dining room. Though she had never worked in a dining room before, she recalls how supportive and welcoming her team was, helping her learn the ropes with kindness and patience. She later transitioned into housekeeping, where she discovered a different, more personal way of connecting with residents.

Now, 12 years later, Colleen continues to bring energy, warmth, and dedication to everything she does. Her days are filled with leading fitness classes like Chair Fit and Aquafit and ensuring residents’ safety in and around the pool.

Colleen’s bond with the residents runs deep. “Routine is a lifeline,” she says, explaining how much purpose and joy her role brings not only to the residents but to her own life. Though she mentions that retirement may one day be on the horizon, her heart is very much still with Parkland.

When asked what keeps her coming back, she doesn’t hesitate when saying it’s the people. She is proud to be part of such a kind, committed team in the heart of Dartmouth.

Thank you, Colleen, for your years of service, passion, and positivity. You’ve made a lasting difference in the lives of so many, and we’re proud to have you as part of the team at Parkland at the Lakes.
