Building Community and Wellness: The Future Residents of Parkland at the Common

August 19, 2025 New Beginnings

Just steps away from the Halifax Common and Emera Oval, Parkland at the Common is already buzzing with life, thanks to a unique partnership that blends wellness, connection, and future community living. One of the most exciting initiatives? “Seniors Hour”, a collaborative program hosted at the Emera Oval. Designed specifically for older adults, it offers a safe, social, and active environment using adaptive equipment like bikes, tricycles, and more, all while providing a chance to learn more about the vibrant lifestyle awaiting future residents of Parkland at the Common.

Opening this Fall in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Parkland at the Common is a brand-new lifestyle residence rising above the iconic corner of Robie and Quinpool. This elegant 25-storey community combines the richness of Halifax’s West End with an elevated living experience for older adults seeking the very best in urban living. From the heated indoor pool to valet parking, a full-service salon and spa, multiple chef-prepared dining venues, and more, this residence offers a seamless blend of beauty and function that delights at every turn.

Among those eagerly counting down the months until move-in day is Susan Cameron and her husband, Keith, who will call Parkland home in November 2025. For Susan, the return to cycling during Seniors Hour is a meaningful one.

She fondly recalls the moment she first rode a bike at age eight: “It was a coaster type with no gears or hand brakes,” she says. “I have wonderful memories of my father helping me balance the bicycle when I was just learning how to ride it.”

Now, decades later, Susan is rediscovering that same joy, without the hustle and danger of city traffic. She recently sold her bike because the volume of traffic in the city makes it difficult. That’s why she enjoys the peace of mind that the Emera Oval on Halifax Common brings. No cars or worries.

“Meeting my soon-to-be neighbours during Seniors Hour has been a great opportunity for cardio exercise and balance,” says Susan.

Physical activity plays a central role in Susan’s day-to-day life. She takes part in a Forever Fit program for Seniors through the YMCA, and a Dance Therapy program for those with neurological conditions like Parkinson’s. “The sociability aspect of these activities is as important as the physical component (including the built-in refreshments and conversation time after the workouts!) I love meeting and getting to know new friends.”

It’s this balance of wellness, social connection, and community support that draws Susan and Keith to Parkland at the Common.

“We’re eagerly waiting to join a community of like-minded people, supported by the ‘lifestyle’ philosophy, which is the foundation piece for Parkland at the Common.”
