The Benefits of Having a House Doctor Onsite

Dr. Milne will discuss the many benefits of having a physician onsite and how this model can support better health outcomes and quality of life for residents, including:

  • Faster access to care – Less waiting and fewer stressful off-site appointments.
  • Better continuity of care – A physician who becomes familiar with the resident’s history, baseline and preferences.
  • Early intervention – Subtle changes in a resident’s health can be identified sooner.
  • Medication optimization – Regular medication reviews can help reduce polypharmacy and adverse reactions.
  • Less disruption – Fewer ambulance trips and exhausting clinic visits.
  • Peace of mind – Knowing a physician is onsite and accessible when needed.
  • Improved communication – Faster updates and clearer communication between the physician, resident, family and care team.
  • Reduced family burden – Less coordination of appointments and transportation for families.
  • Confidence in care decisions – More proactive and informed medical oversight.
  • Stronger clinical support – Nurses and care teams have access to timely medical guidance.
  • Quicker decision-making – Reduced delays when assessments or treatment changes are required.
  • Fewer hospital transfers – Supporting residents to remain safely at home when appropriate.
  • Clearer care plans – Better alignment between medical and care teams.
  • Reduced ER visits and hospitalizations – Helping improve outcomes for residents while reducing pressure on the health-care system.
  • Support for aging in place – Allowing residents to remain in their community longer as their needs change.
