Staying on top of the latest approaches to dementia care is a priority across all Parkland locations. We recognize that dementia care is constantly changing and developing, and how important it is for dementia caregivers to be consistently learning. Recently, we established a partnership with the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia to create the Promising Practices Hub, a digital platform dedicated to supporting those living with dementia, memory care centers, and caregivers with innovative tools and resources. 

Through targeted research and testing for dementia care, we provide our team with the most effective approaches and initiatives. All Parkland team members are trained on and use the Gentle Persuasive Approach, an innovative dementia care education curriculum based on a person-centred care approach. This allows our staff to communicate with residence better, become more confident in their care taking, be more action-oriented, and improved strategies for managing delirium and dementia, with proven reduced use of restraints.

At Parkland, our Memory Care Lifestyle option is built around caring and motivated team members who regularly learn more about dementia caregiving, with areas specifically designed for residents living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia.
