Parkland in the Valley’s Own Trailblazer: Don Bonnar Receives Prestigious Pioneer Award

There are people whose lives are a true testament to passion and perseverance. At Parkland, we are incredibly proud to celebrate one such individual, our community member Don Bonnar, who has been recognized by the New Brunswick Country Music Hall of Fame (NBCMHF) with the prestigious Pioneer Award!
The Enduring Sound of a Pioneer
The Pioneer Award is reserved for the community’s trailblazers and ground breakers, those who have made a lasting contribution to country music in New Brunswick. This honor speaks volumes about the dedication Don has shown throughout his life, beginning early, influenced profoundly by his sister Cherie’s singing and playing. He devoted himself to learning and mastered stringed instruments, even earning a spot with his own show on Rogers Cable.
For Don, receiving this award is more than just recognition; it is an overwhelming privilege that validates all his achievements and goals in music. Today, his musical spirit is as vibrant as ever: he looks forward to playing music with Delbert Cohen and enjoying singing and playing at jams right here in the community.
A New Harmony at Parkland in the Valley
Don’s decision to move to Parkland in the Valley, initially to be closer to family, has blossomed into a profound enhancement of his well-being and sense of purpose.
“I am not so lonely anymore,” Don shared. “I have a purpose for waking up in mornings and look forward to the day.”
From his early days in Jubilee Hall to his current home in Concorde Hall, Don felt comfortable and welcomed right away by both the staff and his peers. He appreciates that music is a great asset in his current community and enjoys the entertainers and social events, like parties.
Passion Nurtured: Our Commitment to Quality of Life
Don’s ability to thrive here underscores our commitment to providing a rich, supportive environment where passions are actively nurtured. This is reflected in the powerful results from our recent Quality of Life survey.

“Don’t give up.”
“If you need help ask for it.”
