In October 2021, Gordon and Barbara moved to Parkland on Eglinton West<\/a>. While they initially moved into a Lifestyle Apartment<\/a>, they soon realized Barbara would benefit from more support<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Choosing a home where they could both live despite needing different levels of care was an essential factor for the couple. \u201cWe knew Barb had dementia,\u201d says Gordon. \u201cWhat mattered was that we wouldn\u2019t have to move elsewhere and could move within Parkland when her dementia progressed. We also liked that as residents, we have priority to move to a different service level if needed,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gordon currently lives in a two-bedroom Lifestyle Apartment and Barbara lives on the fourth floor within the Memory Care<\/a> part of the community. Each day, Gordon sees his wife, whether he is helping her get ready in the morning, taking her to get her hair done at the on-site spa or getting tea and coffee for her and her friends. Barb enjoys spending time with other residents and Gordon remains active and loves doing anything involving golf and is eager to try the on-site golf simulator. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gordon says their experience has been enjoyable, noting that the team at Parkland has been a great help with the transition. \u201cWe had a lot of good advice on what to do and it\u2019s made a difference,\u201d says Gordon. \u201cI was worried she would miss me, but she is very much settled in and loves her suite,\u201d he adds with a smile. \u201cWe came here because Barb has dementia and it was the right thing to do. We are here now and we are just delighted with the experience!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
