{"id":6713,"date":"2021-09-02T12:43:21","date_gmt":"2021-09-02T16:43:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/experienceparkland.com\/?p=6713"},"modified":"2023-08-24T10:11:33","modified_gmt":"2023-08-24T14:11:33","slug":"ken-and-monique","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/experienceparkland.com\/en\/blog\/2021\/09\/02\/ken-and-monique\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet Ken and Monique"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Both a friend and neighbour to many Parkland residents, Ken has become the in-house expert when it comes to pool, providing tips and encouragement with a healthy dose of friendly competition. Ken has an uncanny ability to see the felted tabletop as a roadmap, lining up the cue to get a single target from its starting point to the desired destination, a skill he likely picked up on the road early in his nearly five decades-long career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\" https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZJPg9YpKORc?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/center>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the age of 20, Ken settled into the community he would call home for nearly 50 years, getting married and starting his career as a truck driver which took him to cities and back country roads across Canada. He later became an equipment supervisor, which kept him closer to home where he could spend more time with his wife and three children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As he approached retirement, Ken found himself considering a new hobby. \u201cI told my wife if I\u2019m going to retire, I\u2019ve got to have something to do, so I bought a used pool table,\u201d he recalls. \u201cI\u2019ve had that pool table for about nine years, but I can\u2019t remember ever playing pool before that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/experienceparkland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/2021-07-highres-deancas_DSC0351-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6830\" srcset=\"https:\/\/experienceparkland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/2021-07-highres-deancas_DSC0351-1-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/experienceparkland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/2021-07-highres-deancas_DSC0351-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/experienceparkland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/2021-07-highres-deancas_DSC0351-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/experienceparkland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/2021-07-highres-deancas_DSC0351-1-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/experienceparkland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/2021-07-highres-deancas_DSC0351-1-2048x1366.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When Ken sold his home, finding a community full of caring people and activities was important. He found it, along with new friends like Monique, at Parkland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d see Ken playing pool in the afternoons, so we started playing together,\u201d says Monique, a Wellness Coach at Parkland. \u201cI enjoy learning the different angles and the competition. Making big shots by accident is always exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Monique has been a team member at Parkland for more than a decade. As a Wellness Coach, she plans a range of <a href=\"https:\/\/experienceparkland.com\/health-and-wellness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">social activities and exercise classes <\/a>for residents. Surprisingly, Monique never played pool before meeting Ken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"684\" src=\"https:\/\/experienceparkland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/2021-07-highres-deancas_DTC0804-1024x684.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6721\" srcset=\"https:\/\/experienceparkland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/2021-07-highres-deancas_DTC0804-1024x684.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/experienceparkland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/2021-07-highres-deancas_DTC0804-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/experienceparkland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/2021-07-highres-deancas_DTC0804-768x513.jpg 768w, https:\/\/experienceparkland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/2021-07-highres-deancas_DTC0804-1536x1025.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/experienceparkland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/2021-07-highres-deancas_DTC0804-2048x1367.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMonique hasn\u2019t played pool a whole lot, but she\u2019s coming on strong!\u201d Ken says, with a chuckle. \u201cShe has some real good games and some real poor ones\u2014she\u2019s a good sport.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ken enjoys playing pool with Monique and his fellow residents every afternoon.
