When an opportunity came up to fundraise for a tree to be featured in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mentalhealthns.ca\/festival-of-trees\">Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia\u2019s Festival of Tree<\/a>s, she jumped at the chance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt can\u2019t be hit or miss, it\u2019s got to be superb \u2013 I don\u2019t care what it costs,\u201d said Maureen with a determined smile. \u201cI knew we had to do it!\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The theme of the Parkland at the Gardens tree was an Old-Fashioned Christmas Tree \u2013 decorated with silver, white, and crystal ornaments and topped with a silver star.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1154\" height=\"1153\" src=\"https:\/\/experienceparkland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_1879-1-edited.jpg\" alt=\"Festival of Trees\" class=\"wp-image-5639\" srcset=\"https:\/\/experienceparkland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_1879-1-edited.jpg 1154w, https:\/\/experienceparkland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_1879-1-edited-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/experienceparkland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_1879-1-edited-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/experienceparkland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_1879-1-edited-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/experienceparkland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_1879-1-edited-768x767.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1154px) 100vw, 1154px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The trees were on display in The Doyle rotunda until November 28 and were auctioned off. The proceeds went to the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia to support its programs and services throughout the province.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">$20,000 Raised for Mental Health<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This isn\u2019t the first time Maureen has rolled up her sleeves to champion a fundraising initiative for the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia. Earlier this year, she took part in the Music for Mental Health campaign, a day-long event full of activities, presentations and music focused on promoting positive mental health at Parkland at the Gardens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She set out to fundraise $10,000. When she hit her goal, it was matched by Shannex. In total, she raised $20,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Importance of Seniors&#8217; Mental Health<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Maureen is a strong advocate for the importance of mental health awareness and education, and she is always willing to go the extra mile to help make the community a better place.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cAs seniors, we sometimes lose loved ones and friends in a short period. It\u2019s easy to dismiss feelings of sadness as depression when, in reality, it\u2019s never \u2018just\u2019 depression.
