Moving will always be one of life\u2019s big decisions, no matter\nthe reason or phase. It\u2019s a very exciting time, thinking forward to your new\nhome and new surroundings, but for many it can also bring up feelings of\nanxiety or nervousness. Of course, these feelings are very common with change. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, one magic word can help ease those uncertain\nfeelings \u2013 Planning! Yes, it sounds very simple, but when moving, a solid plan can\nmake the process much smoother and you can re-focus your energy on the amazing\nnew path that is waiting for you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Downsizing to a Retirement Community<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Moving also requires you to take a good look at what you need\nto bring with you to your new home. Many feel that they want to simplify their\nlives in their move to Parkland. Referred to as downsizing, many residents are\nleaving larger homes to take advantage of the smaller footprint at Parkland\u2019s\nsuites, as well as the amenities available, so there is more time to enjoy\ndoing what you like best. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tip #1: Minimize <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

While you may think downsizing will come naturally as you\nstart packing for your move, the time and effort it requires may surprise you. A\ngreat way to get started is referring to our old friend, Planning! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Start by making four lists:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Items you definitely want to keep <\/li>
  2. Items you would like to keep, but can go to\nstorage for the time being (winter clothes, holiday decorations, etc.)<\/li>
  3. Items you know you can donate\/sell <\/li>
  4. Items you can throw away<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    List item #3 allows for reuse of items, one great way is by\nplanning a yard sale. Another alternative is to donate to those who may need\nit, for example, local charities such as Diabetes\nCanada<\/a> are always looking for gently used clothes. Most towns and cities\nalso have an easy to reach drop off site for local charities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Tip #2: Make a schedule, stick to it <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Set deadlines for yourself. Break the work into smaller chunks\nrather than trying to do everything at once. For example, tackle your home one\nroom at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Monday (BATH and LAUNDRY: linens, towels and laundry\nsupplies)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Tuesday (EATING AREAS: kitchen and dining room)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Wednesday (LIVING AREAS: Living room, den, library and electronics)\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Thursday (TREASURED ITEMS: photos albums, art and keepsakes)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Friday (The HEAVY LIFTS: furniture)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
