Now a resident of <a href=\"https:\/\/experienceparkland.com\/en\/locations\/parkland-at-the-lakes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Parkland at the Lakes<\/a>, her journey through life has been marked by challenges, love, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. Born and raised in Manitoba, Irma eventually made her way to Nova Scotia, where she created a life full of family, love, and community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Irma and her late husband lived in Martock, a small community where they cherished their time together, especially their love for dining out. However, life took a challenging turn when Irma\u2019s husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer. The couple had to frequently travel to Halifax for his treatment, a journey that became even more difficult when Irma began experiencing heart issues herself. Despite the trials, they found solace in the care they received, particularly from a dedicated nurse who helped Irma\u2019s husband maintain a positive outlook during his treatments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The experience of having to travel for medical care inspired Irma to give back. She became a strong supporter of family services that provide accommodations for those who, like her, have to stay in the city while receiving treatment at Halifax hospitals. Knowing firsthand the importance of these services, she has been a generous donor to these causes, ensuring that others have the support they need during difficult times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Irma\u2019s heart for giving doesn\u2019t stop there. She also contributes to the <a href=\"https:\/\/iwkhealth.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IWK Health Centre<\/a>, particularly the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Her great-grandson was born at just 20 weeks, and thanks to the exceptional care he received, he is now a healthy 11-year-old. Irma honours this miracle by knitting angel gowns for premature babies, a labor of love that brings comfort to families going through a similar experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Knitting is one of Irma\u2019s main pastimes, and she has used her skill to support various cancer societies as well. Her talent with needles and yarn has produced countless items that have been donated to those in need, bringing warmth and hope to many.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After living alone for a year and a half, Irma moved to Parkland at the Lakes eight years ago. She chose to move before she truly needed to, recognizing the value of living in a community where she felt safe and supported. She quickly became an integral part of life at Parkland, bringing her love for knitting, baking, and reading. Known for delivering baked goods around the community, Irma\u2019s treats are a delight to all who receive them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond baking, Irma is actively involved in various activities at Parkland. She enjoys chair yoga, participates in a book club, and is a member of knitting groups. Music also plays a significant role in her life, and she loves to immerse herself in it whenever she can. Whether she\u2019s reading, knitting, or experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, Irma finds joy in her simple, yet fulfilling, daily routines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reflecting on her time at Parkland at the Lakes, Irma describes it as a safe and nurturing place with the \u201cnicest yards.\u201d Having grown up in Manitoba and moved around quite a bit due to her husband\u2019s military career, which included stints at Shearwater and Goose Bay, she finally found a place where she feels truly at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Irma\u2019s life is a testament to the power of love, resilience, and generosity.
